Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer
Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer, aged 41, is the CEO of Grupo RBS since July 3rd, 2012. His grandfather Maurício Sirotsky Sobrinho has founded the company in which Melzer has been working for the past nine years and which is one of the leading multimedia communications group in Brazil, with 6,500 employees.
Melzer has a bachelor of business administration degree and an MBA obtained at Harvard University (USA). Under his administration sits a wide range of multimedia ventures comprising of newspapers, radio and TV stations in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, plus a digital business holding – e.Bricks Digital -, based in São Paulo, and an executive education unit – HSM -, which operates within the entire country of Brazil.
Melzer has started out his career at Grupo RBS in 2004 acting as General Director for the national market and based in São paulo. In 2008 he has taken on as the VP for Market and Business Development. During this time he was responsible for widening Grupo RBS’ dimension as a national company and, in 2010, Melzer became Executive VP – his mission then was to develop the company’s operations within the communications area and also to widen the group’s target markets.
After kickstarting his career in Brazil, where he has worked at both finance and franchising, Melzer came to be master franchiser for multinational company Sweet Sweet Way. He also took part in projects carried out by Booz Allen & Hamilton consulting firm. In the USA, Melzer has worked at Delphi Corporation and was general manager at BoxTop Media, a New York City-based company, before returning to Brazil and starting his career at RBS.
In 2008, he was enrolled in programmes at the Harvard Business School, such as Effective Strategies for Media Companies and Building and Leading Customer Centric Organizations. Melzer has also been a member of the Ethical Council at the National Council of Self-Regulation in Advertising (Conar) as well as at the Executive Council of Standards. He is currently a member of the Senior Board at the Federation of Commercial and Services Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federasul).
