Dr. Jürgen Heraeus was born in 1936 in Hanau, Germany. Dr. Heraeus studied business administration at the University of Munich, earning his PhD in 1963. He lived in the USA for nearly two years and worked for a variety of Heraeus subsidiaries before his appointment to the Board of Management of W. C. Heraeus GmbH in 1970. He subsequently became Chief Executive Officer of Heraeus Holding GmbH. Since 2000 he has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Heraeus Holding GmbH and Chairman of the Shareholders Committee.
In the past he served many Supervisory Boards as Deutsche Airbus GmbH or Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
Today Dr. Heraeus is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of GEA Group AG and Messer Group GmbH and further more member of the Supervisory Board of Hauck & Aufhäuser Privatbankiers KGaA.
Moreover, he was a member of the Executive Board of the Federation of German Industrie (BDI) for 25 years and Chairman of the Working Group on China within the Asia Pacific Committee of German business (APA).
In addition, he serves as honorary Chairman of the German United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Chairman of the Kathinka Platzhoff Foundation.
Dr. Jürgen Heraeus is married and as the father of five daughters, he is particularly interested in educational policy.
